My name is Gabe Carey.

In 2023, I decided to pursue the outlandish goal of making my own automotive media business. Outlandish because I’d spent the past decade desk‑jockeying my heart out in the concrete jungle. Outlandish because, at the time, my automotive background consisted of hosting my humble little car meets (with the occasional celebrity pop‑in) and penning a handful of EV explainers for a small Substack blog whose name escapes me.

Through all the turbulence, one thing remained constant: my passion for the automotive industry and the technology that fuels it. Initially, I had my sights set on clearing up misconceptions around electric vehicles—to some extent, I still do. But even after writing a 3,000-plus-word review of a three-row family SUV, I couldn’t shake the imposter syndrome. Sure, I could memorize the specs of a niche Italian supercar that no one can afford and contextualize every number of note for the average reader, but could I change the oil in my own niche Italian super sedan? Admittedly, no, I could not.

So when the self-doubt crept in, I channeled it into motivation. Rather than accept my fate as an outsider in an industry I’d poured my heart and soul into since starting NYCars & Coffee back in 2022, I rolled up my sleeves to truly learn the craft, one over-torqued fastener at a time.

I enrolled at Lincoln Tech’s Automotive Technology program and earned my certification, giving me hands-on confidence. Today I split my time between writing, wrenching, and building Acceleramota—bridging media, mechanics, and storytelling. I like figuring out how things work and helping people understand them. If that overlaps with what you’re building, I’m all ears.
